Huntingdon is a fast, right‑handed jumps track on flat fenland turf just outside Brampton, and its character comes from that blend of speed and openness. The circuit is level all the way round, so races are run at a strong, fluent gallop, and horses with pace and neat jumping tend to thrive. The bends are tight enough to punish anything that can't travel or balance, especially turning out of the back straight, and the line of fences down the far side still comes quickly enough to expose a horse that doesn't meet them right.

The home straight gives a fair run‑in without being so long that leaders always fold, which keeps finishes tactical and often quite dramatic. The Peterborough Chase remains the course’s signature race, a Grade 2 that draws high‑class two‑and‑a‑half‑mile chasers every winter and often shapes the mid‑season picture. Because the ground at Huntingdon drains well, meetings frequently go ahead when other winter fixtures are lost, and the going is often on the sounder side, which suits speedier types.

The course continues to attract trainers from Newmarket, Lambourn and the Midlands thanks to its position beside the A14, and the atmosphere stays relaxed and friendly. With the layout offering a wide view of almost the entire track, it remains one of the more spectator‑friendly jumps venues on the calendar.
